Enhancing Assurance: Analyzing Ammonia Converter Longevity Through Crack Growth Analysis

Project Background: In July 2019, our team undertook a
project—evaluating the fitness-for-service of an ammonia converter until its
scheduled 2020 replacement. The challenge heightened as we confronted an
embedded crack in high-temperature conditions.

Methodology and Approach: Combining advanced finite
element analysis and adhering to API579 standards, we harnessed the power of
ABAQUS to intricately map stress distribution and calculate the remaining life
of the converter. Our approach involved discreetly overcoming challenges,
ensuring precision in every step.

Challenges: Discreetly addressing complexities was
central to our project. From the intricacies of crack growth analysis to
high-temperature conditions, our team navigated challenges with finesse. The
calculated script, a cornerstone of our approach, played a pivotal role in delivering nuanced insights.
